Seafood Kitchen Towel - Part Three

I finished all the embroidery on my seafood kitchen towel project.  

I really love the color palette!  I used my color wheel to select the different colors.  

I find using a color wheel so helpful when I am selecting a color palette.  

You may remember that I was planning on adding some trim tape to the bottom of this towel.  I am rethinking that - I have pinned the tape in place and I think it distracts too much from the embroidery ;)

So, unless I change my mind about the tape, this kitchen towel is all finished!  I am really happy with the result!

Seafood Kitchen Towel Part Two

I am back with part two of my seafood kitchen towel project.  You may remember in part one I had hemmed the towel, transferred my seafood motif and selected my color palette.

I started stitching the swirly background ribbon - you can see in this close up that I used a Whipped Blanket Stitch.  I closed the open edge of this stitch with the Back Stitch.  I love the blue/green color variation of the perle cotton floss!
Also in this close up - you can see the lilac colored scallop shell.  It is outlined in Stem Stitch and the ribs are done with Double Knot Stitch: 

For the star fish, I am using the Blanket Stitch all the way around:

 I still have the big fish motif, another scallop and some assorted mussels and clams left to stitch.  And of course add that trim tape!

Seafood Kitchen Towel Part One

I have a new stitching project in the works - an embroidered kitchen towel.  
The towel is made out of white Kona cotton fabric.   
I plan to embroider this seafood corner border and add trim tape to the hem.  

My first step was making the towel.  I cut the fabric with a 1/2" seam allowance and then hemmed the four edges with a 1/4" hem.  And :) I mitered the corners: 

Next up will be deciding my embroidery floss color choices.  Then transferring the border motif and finally starting the embroidery!  I think I will add the trim tape at the very end.  This will keep it free from wear and tear and wrinkling from the embroidery hoop.

New Embroidery Pattern Set - Seafood

I have a new hand embroidery pattern packet available.  This one is called Seafood.  There are so many images in this packet.  I am having a lot of fun planning out all the different stitching projects I want to do.

I have already stitched this anchor and waves.  I used double rows of stitching for the waves.  One row in blue back stitch and then a row above that in white chain stitch.  I think the double rows really add some dimension and texture.

I am also working on this lobster and some text. Do you see the double knot stitch?  It has to be one of my favorite stitches.  I did the heart in chain stitch

I have a lot more stitching planned!
