Long Tailed Daisy Stitch

Notice the orange stamens in this flower? They are formed using the Long Tailed Daisy Stitch. This stitch is the next entry I am adding to my 100 Stitches plus list.

To demonstrate this simple and versatile stitch, I am using perle cotton floss in blue - this is DMC no. 3843.

The Long Tailed Daisy Stitch is actually just a Lazy Daisy Stitch {which I demonstrated here}but the loop is much smaller and the securing stitch is longer and forms the tail.

You can make the tail any length you prefer.   The Lazy Daisy Stitches forming the blue flowers on the left show the difference between the two stitches:

I learned this stitch from the book Embroidery by Mary Webb.

Valentine Heart Embroidery

Just in time for Valentine's Day, I embroidered this floral heart from my Flower Fancy embroidery pattern.

Notice at the bottom of the heart - the big layered flower?  I tried so many different fill stitches for this was always disappointed with the result.  Finally I tried the Blanket Stitch ?!  I love the light, lacy effect.  The underneath flower is done in Straight Stitch

The dark raspberry circle flowers are all Straight Stitch with French Knot Centers.  The two-toned tulip is also Straight Stitch.  The green stems are done in Stem Stitch and the small leaves are Lazy Daisy Stitches.  The large green leaf is done in Fishbone Stitch with a Stem Stitch Center.

The outline of the heart is done with Back Stitch and the pom pom flowers are done with French Knots.

Here are the color numbers of the floss from this project:

Flower Border Project - Part One

I have a new project to share.  I am embroidering this flower border from my Flower Fancy embroidery pattern.

I am doing most of the stitching with variegated color perle cotton floss.

I love embroidering with this floss, the color variation along the stitching line adds so much interest!

Flower Fancy Embroidery Project

I finished the stitching on this project.

I used quite a few different stitches - you can see them in the following close up pictures. The tiny lavender flowers are French Knots with a Stem Stitch stem and a Lazy Daisy Stitch flower.  The same goes for the dark orange flower sprays.  The bright pink sprays are all Straight Stitch.  The dark green leaves are Fishbone Stitch.  The raspberry and pink two toned flower at the top is done with Long and Short Stitch with French Knots for the center:

The yellow and butterscotch colored flower is Whipped Back Stitch.  The bright pink flower is outlined with Stem Stitch and the center is filled with the Pistil Stitch:

The two colored green and two colored blue flowers are both done with Long and Short Stitch and the centers are Back Stitch.  The three colored peach circle flower is done with the Rose Stitch.  The dark raspberry colored circle flower is done with Buttonhole Stitch and French Knots:

Here are the color numbers for the floss I used:

Color Palette Inspiration

This pretty floral paper is the inspiration for a color palette for my current embroidery project.

I have just started stitching this large motif of flowers from my Flower Fancy embroidery pattern set.

Flower Fancy is 12 pages of beautiful flowers.  If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen a few in-progress pictures while I was designing this set:

Here is a picture of the pattern set - available in my Etsy shop.

I hope I can incorporate all of the colors from this palette!
