Organization - Embroidery Journal - 2.0

You may remember when I first designed my Embroidery Journal.  {If not, you can read about it here}. 
I have loved using this journal! 

I record the pertinent information about all my stitching projects.   

And about my embroidery inventory

Having that information and being able to find it in a convenient, organized fashion has been wonderful.  I find myself referring to it often.

Recently, a customer purchased one of these journals and told me that she loved using it but she wished that it had a thread inventory list.  Such a wonderful idea!  An idea that I think will be so useful. 

So - I have added some pages to the original Embroidery Journal. 

There are two thread inventory pages.  One is for large collections of a particular type of thread.  There are spaces at the top of the page to record the brand, size, fiber and description of the collection.  I am using it for all my DMC solid cotton floss.  I record the thread number and best of all...I add a sample of the thread next to the number.  This is creating a permanent "color card" with actual thread that I can refer to any time.  This is so much more accurate than relying on printed colors or looking at color cards online!
Plus, I can print out as many of these pages as I need to record all my floss and I can arrange them how I like, either by color groups or in numerical order. 

The second thread inventory page is for smaller or even mixed collections.  I am using it for my perle cotton floss and my metallic flosses.

There is a page for converting thread numbers between the different brands.  You can build up your own chart for recording the color number of floss from one brand to several other brands:

Organizing - Quilting Journal

I absolutely love using my Sewing Journal and it is keeping me so organized! I got to thinking that I wanted to keep a separate set of records for my quilting projects. 
So, I made a nice set of pages that I can use to record everything quilt and quilting related!  It is a Quilting Journal.

There are pages for just about everything. I thought that it would need to cover three categories:

1. Documenting a finished quilt
2. Planning a quilting project
3. Recording inventory/resources/supplies

That is a lot of information.  It turned out to be 30 pages! 

I added an editable feature, I can type any title I want on this page - completely customizable.  Same with the binder tabs.  The nice thing is being able to make as many different section dividers as I want:

I really like the layout and I am having a great time filling mine in. 

Now I need to finish this quilt top so I can document it.  There is still much embroidering left to do! {that is the open cretan stitch I am doing on the borders}

Christmas Planner

I have a new item in my shop!  It is a Christmas Planner.  I know it is a little early to be thinking about Christmas, but it is never too early to start organizing for the busy Christmas season.

I love the colors gold, green and red.  They look so festive together and that is the color scheme I used for this planner.

This planner is much like my Embroidery, Sewing, Knitting and Crochet Journals in that it is a printable file and there is a page for just about everything you need to plan, keep track of and record!  The pages are 8-1/2 x 11" and are intended to be used in a standard sized binder.

There is a perpetual calendar for both November and December.  You can print them out year after year.  I also like to keep mine from past years - they are fun to read over and remember!

For all your special Christmas recipes, there are three different recipe card options including a full page size that is editable.

There is also a section divider page included.  It is fully editable so you can type in whatever personalized title you want.  Use it for the different sections of your binder {print as many as you need!} or you could also use it as a custom binder cover and use your own wording rather than "Christmas Planner". 

There are also blank editable section tabs.  You can organize your planner any way you wish with divisions that are useful for you.

Organization - Crochet Journal

I am continuing on with my organizing - this time it is crochet!  Because I like to keep a journal of my projects and materials, I designed a crochet journal.  

I am learning how to crochet and I already have a nice collection of hooks and a sizable stash of yarn. 

All the pages are printable so I can print out new project pages every time I start on a project. 

I also like recording and having a permanent record of all the measurements I need for myself or if I am making something for someone else. 

It is really nice to keep track of everything

and have it all available in one convenient binder.

Organizing - Paper Craft Journal

I love to be organized and I really enjoy organizing my crafting supplies and inventory.  Usually this involves my embroidery, sewing and more recently, knitting supplies.  But I also love working with paper, scrapbooks and making cards.   Since I have made organizing binders for these other interests, I decided to make one for paper crafts too.  
I included a lot of pages.  I have pages for all my scrapbooking paper, I can keep track of the name of the paper, the brand, where I bought it and other pertinent details:

I made project pages so that I can keep track of the different projects I make and what I used to make them.  I like to make cards and envelopes:

I also like a nice "to do" page to help plan what I need to do to complete different projects:

and craft scissors:

This has worked out really well for me, so I am selling the pages with binder covers in my shop.  There are 44 pages and I think I have covered about everything a paper crafter would need!

I also added a section for people who sell what they make.  These pages can help keep an accurate record of each design, how the design is created, the materials needed as well as recording the pricing and cost breakdown for the product.

Organizing - Floss and Color

I am in the process of organizing all my embroidery floss.  I really like to see how beautiful it looks neatly stored in these plastic floss boxes.  I have a small bunch of skeins still left to wind up on their bobbins.

I was looking at the order of colors on my color wheel and I decided to arrange my floss in that order.   Such a nice collection!  It looks like I have a lot of floss and a good color selection doesn't it?  Well...

..during my organizing, I came across this list that I picked up from the fabric store quite a long time ago. 

It lists all the floss color numbers that DMC offers.  There is even a check list to mark off the colors you have.  Imagine my surprise when I checked off all of my floss and realized that I have 89 different colors - wow! But that is out of a possible 454!!!  I have only tried about 20% of their colors.

I find I tend to buy the same colors over and over.  I need to branch out - I would love to collect the whole list of colors.  I wonder about any of you?  Do you keep track of your floss colors and does anyone have a whole color collection?

Organization - Knitting Journal

Continuing on with my organizing, the latest craft I have organized is my knitting.  I would describe myself as a beginning knitter but I have more than a few knitters in my family.  Because of them, I have inherited quite the needle and yarn stashes.  I decided to make up a knitting journal along the lines of my embroidery and sewing journals.

This journal has pages for everything knitting related.  I included pages to record all the yarn I have with an area to attach a sample of the yarn and of course all the yarn details:

Same with needles.  I have mostly single pointed needles in my collection, but I included a page for double pointed needles and a page for circular needles.  I am really happy to have all my sizes organized and to know which sizes I still want to add to my collection.
