Color Palette Inspiration

 This vintage image has such a lovely and unusual color palette.  

I would like to use this palette in an embroidery project, so I am collecting floss that will match as closely as possible.    

I matched the main colors, ending up with a 10 color palette: 

I like to add new inspiration pictures and their color palettes in my inspiration journal.  I usually glue the picture in first:

then add floss swatches and numbers:

Trim everything up:

and start planning what I will make using this palette.

 I have a new inspiration picture to add to my color palette journal. 

I think that this is a beautiful palette for a winter themed embroidery project - maybe one of these?

I am going to add this palette to my journal - the floss colors are {from left to right} DMC # 159, Kreinik Silver Metallic, DMC # 823, 3866, 931, 3833, 3774, and 160: 

I have a collection of vintage fashion and needlecraft books.  They offer so much color and design inspiration!

 This illustration has so many beautiful colors, I think it would be a good color palette for a hand embroidery project!

I matched the colors to embroidery floss:

and added them to my color palette journal:

 I have shared on numerous posts that I like to keep a color palette inspiration journal.  In this journal, I match embroidery floss to the inspiration colors.

The journal pages are filling up, so I will be moving into this larger 9.5" x 12" journal soon!

Color Palette Inspiration

I have some palette inspiration to share.  This little image is from a vintage bookplate.  I think the colors will make up an interesting palette for an embroidery project.  I matched all the colors with DMC brand floss I had on hand but

I did not have any floss that matched the banana:

I think DMC 370 may be a good match so I will be ordering that color and adding it to my collection.

I keep a color palette inspiration journal.  I like to match embroidery floss to the inspiration colors. 

My newest addition is this vintage postcard

inspiring this floss palette:

I will take a sample of each floss color and add it to the edge of my journal page.  I make sure to note on the back of the page the floss brand and color number.

You may remember from previous posts, that I keep a color palette inspiration journal.  I like to match embroidery floss to the inspiration colors.

The inspiration palette can be from anywhere - paper samples, photographs, postcards or magazine clippings. I recently found this picture of a travel poster in an old magazine.  I love the colors! 

I added this to my journal: 

To add a sample of the floss and note the color number,  I fold over the edge of the page:

punch holes

and add the floss samples:

I list the corresponding number on the back of the page.  If you are interested in the color numbers for this palette, they are {in top to bottom order} DMC 3860, 3774, 3801, 319, 3770 and 310.

I have a lot of hand embroidery patterns with flowers so I am always looking for floss color inspiration!

This floral picture has been painted in such a beautiful color palette. I am planning to borrow it.

I will add floss samples from this palette to my color inspiration journal - like I did here:

Color Palette Inspiration

 This pretty floral paper is the inspiration for a color palette for my current embroidery project.

I have just started stitching this large motif of flowers from my Flower Fancy embroidery pattern set.  

Flower Fancy is 12 pages of beautiful flowers.  If you follow me on Instagram, you may have seen a few in-progress pictures while I was designing this set:
