We get snow most winters but not usually this much and it usually doesn't stay this long.

Speaking of snow, do you remember my snow quilt project?
I have made some progress with stitching motifs in the small plain fabric squares:
and I have decided to use the open cretan stitch for all the borders around the blocks:
I like this stitch, It is quick to do and suits the patchwork-y look of this quilt. So far so good - I will keep you updated on my progress.

The landscape is beautiful indeed! How I wish we got a bit of snow at least once before winter is over on this side of the woods.

Wow -- your snow is a big time event, isn't it?!? We rarely get snow beyond a flurry (except for last year), so I enjoy seeing it in everyone else's photos! Your quilt is absolutely darling. I love that stitch...I don't recall seeing it before. I'm going to have to look it up and add it to my stitching repertoire! :)

Denise - Thanks! I had never heard of the open cretan stitch before I started 100 stitches. There is also a stitch on my list called the cretan stitch. I haven't tried it yet- it looks complicated and very different from the open cretan!

Sue - Thanks - we are expecting rain too, it has really warmed up and all the snow is off the trees. We had a lot of tree limbs come down from the snow weight and wind :(

Use your 1/4" foot and stitch right next to the seams of the squares. You could do it on both sides or just one. If you do it on both, it will look like you've stitched a square within the square. I like it on both sides even though it's a bit more work. You could also use your walking foot if you have one and just run a 1/4" stitch that way. I'd be afraid of quilting all over since you wouldn't want it stitched over your embroidery.
