Snow days and a quilt update

We have had almost a week of snow!

We get snow most winters but not usually this much and it usually doesn't stay this long.

I love the gray sky:

and how beautiful the landscape looks

covered in white:

Rego and Berit LOVE the snow and everything about it!

Chasing snowballs, eating snow...

it's all good!

Speaking of snow, do you remember my snow quilt project?

I have made some progress with stitching motifs in the small plain fabric squares:

and I have decided to use the open cretan stitch for all the borders around the blocks:

I like this stitch, It is quick to do and suits the patchwork-y look of this quilt. So far so good - I will keep you updated on my progress.

The landscape is beautiful indeed! How I wish we got a bit of snow at least once before winter is over on this side of the woods.
Your theme quilt is... Gorgeous!!! The colors, your chosen stitcheries and the open cretan stitch is perfect for it!

Gorgeous photos, I love the snow but rarely see much of it where I live.

Wow -- your snow is a big time event, isn't it?!? We rarely get snow beyond a flurry (except for last year), so I enjoy seeing it in everyone else's photos! Your quilt is absolutely darling. I love that stitch...I don't recall seeing it before. I'm going to have to look it up and add it to my stitching repertoire! :)

Oh I want to make a quilt now, just so I can do that stitch on the block edges! Looks terrific! Great job.

The snow is amazing to see, when I am sitting here in the middle of summer & melting hot!

Kim, I can not decide what do I like more, if the snow photos or your wonderful quilt. Here in Barcelona snow is something very inusual. And your quilt is wonderful.

Mom Wald - Lol so true!
Monika - Thank you! Snow is so much fun at first! Ours is starting to melt and now it is a big slushy mess :)
Hi Kristen - Thank you!
Katie - Thank you :)
Denise - Thanks! I had never heard of the open cretan stitch before I started 100 stitches. There is also a stitch on my list called the cretan stitch. I haven't tried it yet- it looks complicated and very different from the open cretan!
Hello Dyanna - Thank you! big B is such a sweetie - she has had so much fun with this snow - a happy weekend to you too!
Mandy - Thank you! Middle of summer sounds nice right about now!
Simone - Thank you!
Sue - Thanks - we are expecting rain too, it has really warmed up and all the snow is off the trees. We had a lot of tree limbs come down from the snow weight and wind :(
Emma - Thank you! I think you should make a quilt like this it has been so fun!
Digna - Thank you! Since we don't get snow every winter it is always exciting when we do!

It looks so beautiful - and so do those gorgeous dogs having such fun. Makes me miss my beloved Bracken - she loved it too.

I really like the way you are embellishing the snow quilt with the open cretan stitich, it is really affective. Lovely idea!

Oh! I love the pictures of your dogs in the snow! So Sweet, they look like big ole puppies playing around! I hope that we get atleast 1 snow day.
That quilt is beautiful and your stitching is stunning! It is just beautiful Kim!

Thank you Jules! This is a dramatic looking stitch! I'm sorry about Bracken - I don't think you ever stop missing them.
Libby - Thank you! The pups really love the snow! For my quilt, I'm wondering how I am actually going to "quilt" stitching is only through the quilt top right now.
Angela - Thanks! I really like these colors too - I like the effect of having just a small color range for this quilt.
Emi - Grazie! Adoro la neve. Sono felice con la mia trapunta. Spero che tu possa leggere il mio Italiano:)
Archie - Thank you!

Use your 1/4" foot and stitch right next to the seams of the squares. You could do it on both sides or just one. If you do it on both, it will look like you've stitched a square within the square. I like it on both sides even though it's a bit more work. You could also use your walking foot if you have one and just run a 1/4" stitch that way. I'd be afraid of quilting all over since you wouldn't want it stitched over your embroidery.

wonderfull!I wait for the snow with a lot of anxiety, but so far has not yet showed up!

Angela - I think you are right about quilting all over - I don't want to go over any of the embroidery.
Hello Alessandra - Thank you! :) I love snow as long as I don't have to drive in it!
