You might remember in my first wip post for this project, I was detailing all the different stitches I was using.
I am now finished with all the stitching!
The only new stitch I added is the split stitch that I used for the candies that make up the roof tiles:
I don't really know what I am going to do with this. I stitched it on a nice piece of quilters weight cotton. The fabric piece measures 15" x 16" so I have a lot to work with.
I also have these beautiful trims:
and five more gingerbread house patterns. I would like to make a sort of series project. I have stitched three so far, this one that I just finished, the gingerbread townhouse and the little woodland cottage . I could make...maybe a series of stitched pictures for the holidays? Perhaps a series of pillows or maybe a gingerbread themed quilt top? I would love to hear any suggestions!
Here are the floss colors I used:

Oh this is so sweet!! I love the idea of a gingerbread house quilt -- your little drawings are darling! :)
That is too cute!! Great work with the different stitches. They all work very well together. You could try little ribbon wall hangings grouped together or in a row/column. You could put them on canvas boards and trim with your ribbon.
I think they'd be wonderful as pillows too - different shapes. A pouf pillow would look fantastic for this design with the red ribbon right at the seam line with a little bow. I'll send you a link for a pic.
I saw a cute rectangular pillow that had the back overlap the front and button on the front. I'll send you the link for that too.
Then you could do a square pillow with little ribbon bows at the corners.
I even thought that a shadow box would be cute.
Let me know what you decide.
The gingerbread house is so cute!!!
Very nice. Beautiful with the different stiches.
Regards,
I love it! I love the use of non-traditional colors, and the design is adorable!
What a sweet design!! :)
wow...lovely gingerbread house! your beautiful stitches are amazing ... blest be :)
Oh boy, this is SO cute! Elaborate indeed, and just as darling as can be! Your stitching is beautiful as always. I also love the idea of a set of wall hangings. I'm kind of partial as I just finished one myself. A little bit of quilting and a whole lot of embroidery, right up my alley. What ever you do make sure to do a show & tell for us. oxo~Lisa

Lisa - Thank you! I will be sure to keep you updated!
I just bought your Gingerbread packet and I'm really excited to work on it. It's so darling! I love your blog, it looks like it's going to be very helpful. I have only done one other project so I'm kind of a beginner.....I'm curious as to how many strands of floss I should use for the stitching on the gingerbread houses. Do you use all 6 strands or separate the strands? And for the peppermint candies and candy canes?
Hi Kim! I love your style! This is a beautiful project! Congrats! xoxo
Kristine - Thank you Kristine! For this particular house, I used two types of embroidery floss: pearl cotton (size 5)and six-strand embroidery floss. The pearl cotton floss is one twisted strand and you cannot separate it into individual strands. (I did a blog post showing these two types of floss when I first discovered pearl cotton floss - you can read about it and see a comparison picture here: http://bigbgsd.blogspot.com/2010/05/perle-cotton.html I used the pearl cotton on the red heart, the red parts of the peppermint candy, the red and white inside stripes on the candy cane edges of the house, the red top of the chimney and the brown "gingerbred" text. I experimented with the six strand floss on the rest, I used all six strands because I wanted a puffy frosting look to the roof tiles - but I used only two strands of the red and two strands of the white for the checkered chain stitch on the outside borders of the candy cane edges of the house. I only used one strand of floss for the satin stitched doorknob! If you look at the second picture in this post, you can see the three smaller french knots on the bottom of the window border - I only used three strands of floss. For the pink and green french knots right below the window I used all six strands - you can really see the different effect you can get with how many strands you use! It is so much fun to experiment - let me know if you have any questions or need any help with your projects!
:) Thank you Simone!
Thank you so much for all of the info!! I appreciate it so much! I'll let you know how it goes. :)
These are just too cute! What material do you use to stitch the patters onto? Thanks x
Thank you Minnie! For this stitching, I used a 100% cotton - medium weave fabric. It is quilter's weight cotton - I usually find it in the quilting department at the fabric store.
This is fabulous!! I love it so much!
I love this so much!!
Hi Archie - Thank you! I visited your lovely blog - Archie looks like such a sweetie!
Sorry I left two comments - every time I clicked on post comment the connection timed out so I tried again and then my computer wouldn't let me view your blog at all, very frustrating!
Looks amazing. Not only do you have such cool things to show us, you have photographed them beautifully!
Hi Nalan Unal - Thank you!
