Seashells and Seahorses
Isn't this a sweet little seahorse? He is one of the patterns in my new embroidery pattern packet. Here is a full view: And notice the blue oval stitched around the seahorse? I used the scroll stitch! I even went back and re-read my own 100 Stitches post! I think it was the perfect stitch for this oval, it looks sort of ocean wave-ish! This pattern packet also has plenty of seashells and starfish: I will keep posting pictures of the patterns from this packet as I stitch them up. I really enjoyed selecting colors for this project. I used my color wheel:and came up with a combination of complementary colors (orange and blue) and split-complimentary colors (violet and green) I added a little brown and dark orange too! Here is a picture of the pattern packet. It is a 12 page pattern extravaganza ;)
Very cute!

your stitches are always perfection - what kind of thread do you use?
ReplyDeleteHello, Kim! I'm very happy because I bought my first pattern of you, by Etsy, and I chosen this pattern. I love sea things... Your design is so clean and soft. I hope it come soon!
ReplyDeleteLittle Green Doll - Thank you!
ReplyDeleteNima - Thanks :)
Annie - Thanks! Yes those are french knots - I only used three strands of the floss so that they would be little and neat!
Libby - Thank you! I love the crown too.
Farah - Thank you!
Wendy - Thanks - I used the pearl cotton floss (size 5) for the body of the seahorse and all the shells except for the brown one. I used metallic floss for the crown and then regular embroidery floss for the brown shell, the oval and the french knots on the seahorse. Most of the pearl cotton floss I used is the dmc "color variations" floss. I love that floss!
Simone - Thank you! I just emailed your order to you. :) I love sea things too and this pattern is reminding me of a warm beach - nice thoughts for today because we had about 3" of snow overnight!
Love the new patterns! I may not be able to resist it for long!

Thanks Sam!
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely correct, that is the perfect stitch for your blue border. What sweet designs!
ReplyDeleteYou almost had me convinced to try metallic threads in the Christmas Stitch Along over at Flickr, but I wimped out. ;)
May I know where I can get the colour wheel?
ReplyDeleteFrancesca
MWP - Thank you! Metallic threads = frustration! But it was worth it for this project - this seahorse just had to have a glittery crown :)
ReplyDeleteFrancesca - Yes I got my color wheel at a university book store - in the art section. The manufacturer is The Color Wheel Company www.colorwheelco.com It is such a nice color wheel and I really enjoy using it to help me think of color combinations!
This is too cute ... lovely color choices and stitching !!!
ReplyDeleteYou used the scroll stitch perfectly... looks like tiny sea waves...love it !!!
